I have training in CBT, Motivational Interviewing, trauma and abuse, substance abuse disorders, anxiety, depression, and other co-occurring disorders and mental health issues. I also work with clients dealing with abandonment and issues that they have due to childhood and recent traumas, including grief and loss issues. I specialize in trauma, child-parent / family issues, and abuse issues as well as domestic violence. I am a certified EMDR, Teen positive Parenting Program (Teen Triple P), Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP), a DCF-certified/ court-approved Batterer Intervention Program (BIP) provider and a court-approved anger management and parenting class provider.
Being comfortable, feeling safe and at ease with your therapist is vital for a strong therapeutic alliance. I realize that starting counseling and choosing your therapist are major decisions and you may have many questions. I am inviting you to call for a quick chat before deciding to work with me. All my potential clients will receive a 15-minutes free initial consultation to ask questions to determine if we are a good fit. I do provide services in English and Haitian Creole.
I recognize the importance of privacy and safety as the basis of effective therapy. I take my client's confidentiality very seriously. I do not share information about my clients with anyone without written authorization. Exceptions to confidentiality are rare and specifically mandated by law and professional ethics. I make sure to review confidentiality during my first session with all clients and I am available to answer any questions about confidentiality as they may arise in the course of treatment.
Creativity matters in therapy because of the nature of the therapeutic relationship. A willingness from both client and therapist to test ideas and to explore themes, is what will often lead to discoveries and eventually positive therapeutic change/outcomes. I value creativity at the my office because it enables my clients to take what they have learnt in sessions and apply it to their life outside of therapy
I strive to provide an empathic, nonjudgmental environment where I listen to my clients carefully and without preconceptions and where my clients will feel heard and validated. I am compassionate about actively promoting my clients' welfare and giving priority to their needs.
A good counseling relationship is one in which the therapist is genuinely accepting of all the feelings, emotions and life story that go to form the client. I understand, appreciate and celebrate the differences that exist between individuals at my office. I am committed to insuring that my counseling center is a welcoming and safe space for all. I honor and respect my client's perspective and I am here to support each and every one of them.
